From Current Students: Why I Chose Emory
Choosing the right college can feel like a big decision, and for many students, Emory University ends up being the perfect fit. With two undergraduate campuses, students can choose between starting their Emory journey on the bustling Atlanta campus or the tight-knit Oxford campus, all while receiving a world-renowned Emory education. Here are five current students sharing why Emory was the right decision for them.
1. Izzy Akunwafor | Oxford Campus
Izzy is a first-year student who fell in love with Oxford when she came for an Admitted Student Preview Day. Her major is Neuroscience on a premed track and she is considering adding Anthropology as well. Izzy is a member of the African and Caribbean Student Union, MED Club, Volunteer Oxford, Fiber Arts Club, the Cheerleading team, and the Student Admissions Association.
“I chose Oxford the day I came on my admitted students’ day. I fell in love with the collaborative and creative environment cultivated both inside and out of the classroom by faculty and students alike. Oxford is truly a place where everyone wants you to succeed and will provide the opportunities and resources to make that success possible.”
2. Daniel Bell | Atlanta Campus
Daniel is a junior in Emory College on Emory’s Atlanta campus, and is double-majoring in History and Economics. An alumnus friend introduced him to Emory and showed Daniel firsthand the welcoming and supportive atmosphere on campus. Daniel is a member of the University Chorus, Volunteer Emory, Dooley’s Players, and Emory Catholic.
“I grew up with a large extended family network, and while I knew I wanted to try somewhere new I was worried that I’d be losing that support system I’d grown up with. My first visit to Emory was with a family friend, and while I was here he introduced me to a bunch of students who were involved in the various clubs and majors I was considering. The idea that Emory was not only a place where someone could have so many different friends with so many different interests, but also one where students would be willing to give up their time and effort to help someone they didn’t know, was really special. Since then, I’ve found such an amazing community at Emory that’s supported me in my social, academic, and professional development in the same way I felt supported back home!”
3. George Segall | Oxford Campus
George is a first-year student who has found a second home at Oxford. His major is undecided, but he is considering Business Administration with a Film and Media Concentration. He is a member of Oxapella, the Emory Wheel newspaper, the Student Activity Committee, and the Student Admissions Association.
“I really feel as if Oxford chose me; the close-knit classes with amazing student-teacher relations, a smaller school within a larger institution, and a thriving community with so much spirit really are special. It’s my perfect place.”
2. Tyler Menker | Atlanta Campus
Tyler is a junior in the Goizueta Business School on Emory’s Atlanta campus, and is majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and Film & Media. He is a member of eTV: Emory’s Film and TV Club, Emory’s Percussionist Ensemble, Photography Club, Club Tennis, Emory’s Hilel’s of Georgia, Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity, and the First-Year Advisory Board.
“Emory is more than just a university—it’s a vibrant community fueled by curiosity, collaboration, and an unstoppable drive to make a difference. Here, students don’t just learn; they uplift and push one another toward success. With groundbreaking research and a mission-driven spirit, Emory empowers students to be catalysts for change in the world. It’s a rare place where you’ll always find a peer ready to ask, “How can I help?”—because at Emory, we inspire each other.”
5. Ashlyn Brooks | Oxford Campus
Ashlyn is a second-year student who knew Oxford was the perfect fit for her when she toured the campus for the first time. She is a Nursing major. Ashlyn is in a sorority and is a member of the Student Admissions Association.
“Oxford has given me the opportunity to both find my voice and learn how to use it, surrounding myself with a community that supports me as both a student and as a human. Being my home away from home, Oxford gives me the privilege to go to school in an environment that challenges me to be creative, explore and find my passions, and enrich myself in collaboration and a community that wants me to thrive.”
Fall in love with Emory for yourself
One thing all five students have in common is that they fell in love with Emory when they experienced it for themselves. Plan your visit to Emory to experience the magic for yourself and see why there is no college like Emory. Make sure to visit both undergraduate campuses – Atlanta and Oxford College, about 45 minutes away from Atlanta, for the full Emory experience.
